Talk:Challenges

From FOSS Community India

{{{ Consumer Mentality

We should encourage people develop a producer culture.

Perfectionist attitude

People wait for perfection before release.

No patches and many forks

Hesitation to submit patches upstream. }}}

I feel these entries are a bit negative.

Develop a "Good User" culture. (a) A good user reacts to all glitches by filing a "Good Bug Report" --- (need a link here on how to write good bug reports). (b) A good user reacts to inactivity on her bug by the maintainer by providing a fix :-) (c) A good user does not hesitate. If you fear that you will make a mistake and do not speak that will be a mstake.

Provide a link on why forks are bad.

[edit] Editing help required

The idea behind the starting of the discussion on the wiki was to make sure everyone get to express what they thought what is blocking more FOSS contribution. The idea was triggered when we felt the FOSS.IN/2006 panel discussion missed out some of the key issues or showed a biased picture of some key issues.

So we decided to continue the discussion on this in the BoF next day and collect all views on wiki so that those who missed these two session get an idea of these issues and also help them to express their views. So the link way posted to most of the mailing lists and triggered a discussion. The wiki was meant to agegate all the views and process it to bring out an a quality article in the true spirit of a wiki based collaboration.

You could help in editing it to bring it up to a quality wiki article by removing purely personal opinions or moving them as quotes. Explain the different vews clearly when there is conflicting opinions...

Also if you have got some better idea to co-ordinate this effort please discuss it in here.
